MultiChoice Ghana, operators of DStv, has announced adjustments to its subscription packages, promising Ghanaian customers increased value across all bouquets beginning 1 October 2025.
The move follows months of negotiations between the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation and MultiChoice Africa, after a stakeholder committee was tasked to review the broadcaster’s pricing structure.
Addressing the press on Monday, September 29, Minister Samuel Nartey George said the committee considered Ghana’s macroeconomic conditions, subscription trends, and cost drivers before submitting recommendations to MultiChoice Africa. The outcome, he noted, is “an unprecedented value increase” of between 33% and 50% across all subscription tiers, available exclusively in Ghana.
Package Upgrades and Savings
Under the new arrangement, subscribers will enjoy automatic upgrades across bouquets:
Padi (GHS 59) subscribers will be upgraded to Access (GHS 99), gaining up to 35 additional channels, a cost saving of 40%.
Access (GHS 99) subscribers will move to Family (GHS 190), receiving 19 more channels and saving 48%.
Family (GHS 190) subscribers will be upgraded to Compact (GHS 380), unlocking 22 more channels, including live football, at a 50% saving.
Compact (GHS 380) subscribers will move to Compact Plus (GHS 570), with up to 12 extra channels and 33% savings.
Compact Plus (GHS 570) subscribers will enjoy the Premium package (GHS 865), gaining 18 additional channels and saving 34%.
Premium subscribers (GHS 865) will maintain access to all content but gain automatic entry into a competition for an all-expenses-paid trip to watch selected English Premier League matches.
A detailed breakdown of the new value arrangements provided by MultiChoice (see Table 1) confirms the tiered benefits, showing the highest savings at the mid-range Family bouquet, while Premium subscribers gain exclusive experiences rather than direct cost benefits.
Combating Piracy
The minister also revealed measures to address broadcast piracy, particularly from Nigeria. A new working group will be established, comprising representatives from the Ministry, the National Communications Authority, the Cyber Security Authority, the Ghana Domain Name Registry, the National IT Agency, the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, the Ghana Police Service, and MultiChoice Africa.
According to Mr George, this group will coordinate enforcement efforts to protect both government revenue and the broadcaster’s content.
