In a landmark case filed at the Supreme Court, Shafic Osman, a Ghanaian citizen, has brought legal action against Wesley Girls Senior High School, the Ghana Education Service (GES), and the Attorney General, challenging the school’s policy prohibiting Muslim students from practicing their faith on campus.
The plaintiff seeks several declarations from the court, including that Wesley Girls SHS’s policy violates constitutional rights to freedom of religion, non-discrimination, and the welfare of children as enshrined in the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.
Osman argues that compelling all students to observe Methodism in a public school infringes on Articles 12, 17, 21, and 26 of the Constitution.
