The Fixing the Country Movement’s scheduled protest against former President John Dramani Mahama has been called off by Minister of National Security Albert Kan-Dapaah.
The Minister cancelled the protest due to security concerns, Fixing the Country Movement noted in a statement on November 22, 2023.
In the statement, the group’s coordinator, Ernest Owusu-Bempah, said: “The Fixing the Country Movement wishes to inform the general public that the planned demonstration and picketing at the Cantonments office of former President John Mahama scheduled for Thursday, November 23, 2024, has been called off due to a formal order by the Ministry of National Security.”
“National Security informed our leadership of perceived security considerations that necessitated their request, and we have subsequently suspended the demonstration indefinitely,” the statement added.
Further, Owusu-Bempah apologised to his supporters nationwide for the abrupt postponement and gave them the assurance of his quest to get the Special Prosecutor to promptly look into the controversial Airbus case.
“We will employ all legal and constitutional means to ensure that the investigation is pursued to its logical conclusion.”
The movement had criticised state investigative agencies, especially the OSP, for refusing to continue its inquiry into the alleged scandal.
Some NDC followers, as a response to the protest, had planned to go to Mr. Mahama’s residence on the said date to carry out a “clean-up” exercise.
