NDC seeks live broadcast of EC meeting on voters register

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to allow a live broadcast of their upcoming meeting on Friday. The meeting is set to address issues the NDC claims to have identified in the Provisional Voters Register (PVR) for the 2024 general elections.

In a letter dated September 4, NDC General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey urged the EC Chairperson to permit the broadcast, stating it would ensure transparency, a core value reflected in the commission’s motto.

“We request a live broadcast of our presentation of observations found in the Provisional Voters Register (PVR) to your team,” Mr. Kwetey wrote.

The NDC in an earlier letter expressed concerns about the integrity of the register, citing significant discrepancies in the documents.

Subsequently, the EC responded, confirming a meeting with the NDC on September 6, 2024, and assured that efforts are being made to address any issues before the final register is compiled.

The NDC’s letter to the EC is reproduced below:

REQUEST FOR LIVE BROADCAST OF PRESENTATION OF OBSERVATIONS FOUND IN PVR 2024

I bring you greetings from the NDC Party Headquarters, Accra and trust that this letter finds you well.

In connection with the upcoming meeting with your team slated for Friday, 6th September 2024, we request for a live broadcast of our presentation of observations found in the Provisional Voters Register (PVR) to your team. This, we believe, will give true meaning to transparency as found in your motto.

We anticipate your usual attention and co-operation.

Thank you.

Signed

Fifi Fiavi Kwetey

General Secretary
