The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) says it has begun an extensive internal reorganisation and membership mobilisation drive ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Addressing a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, said the party was confident of returning to power and was undertaking reforms to strengthen its grassroots structures.
Mr Kodua said the early completion of internal elections would allow the party time to rebuild unity and campaign effectively. “For the first time, the party is organising the presidential primaries as early as possible, to be followed by polling station elections, electoral area elections, constituency, regional and national elections. It is anticipated that by next year August, the party will be done with all internal elections,” he said.
He added that the completion of this calendar would give the NPP “more than two years to reorganise our record and what the party stands for,” expressing confidence that “come December 7, 2028, the New Patriotic Party will surely come back to power.”
The General Secretary announced that the party is placing renewed emphasis on polling station-level organisation, describing it as the foundation of its political structure. He directed that polling station meetings should be held at least once a month and that only members who are registered and vote at a specific polling station will be eligible to contest as polling station executives.
He also reminded members that payment of dues remains a requirement for participation in internal elections.
“It is only when you have paid your dues that you can take part in our internal elections and stand to be voted for as an executive of our party,” he said, adding that the rule would be strictly enforced.
