NPP National Council to decide tie between Agyarko and Addai-Nimoh

The party argued the decision will save time and cost

After a National Council meeting of the New Patriotic Meeting on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, it has been decided that members of the National Council of the party shall vote in the run-off between Boakye Agyarko and Francis Addai Nimo.

This comes after Francis Addai-Nimoh and Boakye Agyarko garnered nine votes each, tying for fifth place.

To help break the tie, the Elections Committee had announced that there was going to be a run-off in line with the party’s constitution unless any of the two candidates decided to step down.

But at the National Council Meeting yesterday, General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua said the decision was “in pursuance of the provisions of Article 10(3) (1) and 18 of the NPP constitution, having regard to the supreme interest and well-being of the Party”.

“By this decision, the National Council, which is the second-highest decision-making body of the party, has varied Regulation 25 of the revised guidelines published by the Presidential Elections Committee on the conduct of the Special Electoral College election in respect of the procedure for breaking a tie for the 5th placed candidate”, Justin Kodua added.

According to him, the decision will also save time and financial resources.

The run-off will be conducted by the Electoral Commission under the supervision of the party’s presidential elections committee on Saturday, September 2nd, at the NPP headquarters at Asylum Down.
