NR: NDC Regional Council of Elders Endorses Ali Adolf As Acting Regional Chairman

The Council of Elders of the National Democratic Congress in the Northern region has confirmed Ali Adolf, one of the two regional vice-chairpersons, as Acting Regional Chairman until the next regional party conference. This follows the demise of their regional chairman, the late Alhaji Ibrahim Abdulai Mobila, of Tugu Yapalsi-Naa last week.

Alhaji Umar Yussif, Secretary to the Northern Regional Council of Elders, who read the press statement on behalf of the Council, condemned the action and attacked the Northern Regional Secretariat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Tamale on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 by an unknown youth group within the Tamale Metropolis.

He said the Council of Elders considers the attack criminal and has therefore called on the law enforcement agencies to treat it as such.

“It is considered the conviction and belief of the council that the regional party office that was attacked was built on the contributions of committed and loyal members of the party as far back as 1999,” he stated.

Alhaji Umar Yussif added that such behavior is considered “anti-party” and highly condemnable. He called on the National Executive Committee to set up a committee to investigate the said attack to enable the appropriate structures of the party, particularly Article 48 (Party Discipline) of the party constitution, to deal with the situation.

The Regional Council of Elders re-emphasized that anybody found culpable in this heinous attack should not be shielded, and the lawful processes to deal with such persons or groups of persons should proceed.

He further added that the youth of the party in particular should exercise maximum restraint and remain calm whilst further consultations continue to find lasting solutions to the current challenges of the party in the region.
