A new GHC 350,000, 3-unit classroom block with a fence wall has been handed over to authorities of the Gurugu Hairiya English and Arabic Primary School at Gurugu in Sagnerigu Municipality.

The construction of the school had become necessary to create more space for increased enrollment in the school.

The three-unit classroom block, which has an office and a storeroom, was a donation from a philanthropist based in Australia and a Ghanaian-born citizen, Alhaji Ibi Alhassan Iddrisu.

Presenting the keys to the school, Alhaji Ibi Alhassan Iddrisu stated that he learned of the school’s poor condition and came to its aid.

At the ceremony, the Islamic Regional Education Manager, Sheikh Issah Alhassan Abubakari, said it was the responsibility of all to contribute towards improvement in the quality of education in the country.

He said the school building was a fitting memorial to the late father of the philanthropist, the late Alhaji Alhassan Iddrisu, who was also a philanthropist and showed passion and a strong belief in education as a key driver of development.

He said besides education, the parents should focus on the upbringing of their wards and provide the necessary assistance and resources to mold the character of the youth to make them grow into honest and trustworthy people.

The assistant head teacher of the school, Mr. Lenseni Fuseini, thanked the philanthropist for the donation and also pleaded with stakeholders to come to their aid in providing them with computers and printers to assist in the assessments of the pupils.

He said the building had come at a time when it was most needed, noting that it was an example that other public-spirited individuals could emulate.
