Ofori-Atta’s new post will make Bawumia’s campaign difficult – NPP footsoldiers tell Akufo-Addo

The Alliance for Footsoldiers Advocacy (AFFA) has petitioned President Nana Akufo-Addo to reverse the appointment of Ken Ofori-Atta as Senior Presidential Advisor and Special Envoy for International Finance and Private Sector Investment.

AFFA, a group aligned to the NPP, argued the “questionable” performance of Ken Ofori-Atta when he was the Finance Minister as the reason for which he does not merit his new position.

In a press release signed by the executive members of the association on February 23, 2024, the association said Ken Ofori-Atta’s new appointment will make the campaign difficult for the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

“It is needless to say that Ken Ofori-Atta’s performance as Finance Minister post-COVID-19 has been questionable, and the least Ghanaian people expect is for him to step aside from the economic decisions of the country as pertains in other jurisdictions.”

“Appointing him to this novel position, albeit advisory, amid our current economic challenges is nothing but a slap in the faces of the Ghanaian electorates. Mr. President, it is about time you listened to the sentiments of the electorates in whose name you exercise your presidential powers in order not to make the campaign difficult for our new flagbearer. The Ghanaian people have had enough of Ken Ofori-Atta!” the NPP footsoldiers group charged.

AFFA contended that although the President has the executive power to appoint people for his government, “it is equally important that he refrains from exercising that power “arbitrarily and capriciously.”

The group also called on party members and sympathisers to join in their petition to get Ken Ofori-Atta out of his new position.

The group’s call comes after a viral letter dated February 15, 2024, revealed the re-appointment of the former Finance Minister after his removal that same day.

Since 2022, Mr. Ofori-Atta has received heavy criticism for poor performance from several quarters, including MPs from the ruling administration.
