Heavy rainfall on Wednesday evening has led to the collapse of a two-storey residential building at Adenta Newsite in the Greater Accra Region, resulting in one fatality and four injuries.

The structure went down near the Da Yesu Ase Supermarket, prompting a rapid response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) after an emergency call was received at about 6:36 p.m.

Firefighters from the National Headquarters were deployed to the scene, with additional support from the Abelemkpe and Legon Fire Stations.

Five people, comprising two children and three adults, were trapped under the rubble. Rescue teams, working alongside some community members, conducted an intensive search and recovery operation to reach those affected.

Four occupants, identified as Fred Atagba, Solomon, Seyeram Dzigda and David Dzigda, were pulled out alive but injured and taken to the 37 Military Hospital for treatment. A dog that was also caught in the collapse was rescued during the operation.

One other occupant, Margaret Kpeli, believed to be in her late 30s, was later recovered from the debris unresponsive. She was handed over to the Adenta District Police for the necessary procedures and investigation.

The rescue operation ended at about 10:54 p.m, with authorities commending local residents for their assistance during the early stages of the response while praising the coordinated efforts of emergency personnel.
