The Chief Executive Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Julius Neequaye Kotey, has been invited by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to provide further details on an alleged GH¢4 million cash bribery attempt aimed at halting a new vehicle registration initiative.

Mr Kotey had claimed in an interview with Angel TV in Accra that powerful individuals attempted to bribe him to abandon the planned introduction of stickers to replace number plates for the “Drive from Port” (DP) vehicle registration system. The initiative, he said, was designed to curb fraud related to vehicle number plate issuance at the ports.

In a report by Citi Newsroom, the OSP confirmed that it has reached out to Mr Kotey to obtain more information to verify the claim and identify those allegedly involved in the bribery attempt.

Meanwhile, the OSP has also launched a separate investigation into a sitting member of the Council of State over suspected corruption and corruption-related offences linked to gold trading.

Sources quoted by Citi Newsroom said the probe centres on allegations that the Council of State member used his position to influence the granting of a gold licence to a company in which he allegedly has undisclosed business interests.

During the Angel TV interview, Mr Kotey said that upon assuming office in February 2025, he observed that the number of vehicles reported by DVLA officials as issued with DP plates at the ports appeared unusually low.
