Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, has lauded the hard work and dedication of the Commission’s staff across the country as they gear up for the December 7 general elections.
In an address delivered on the eve of the elections, she expressed deep gratitude for their contributions and charged them to deliver a transparent, fair, and credible electoral process.
“On behalf of the Electoral Commission, I thank our indefatigable staff across the country,” she said. “You have worked hard to ensure the successful, peaceful, and credible elections and outcomes we are about to witness. You have fought a good fight—Ayekoo!”
Addressing both permanent and temporary staff, including regional directors, district officers, and polling officials, Ms. Mensa highlighted the critical nature of their roles in ensuring the elections reflect the will of the people.
“Our collective roles—yours and ours—are not to make anybody a president or a member of Parliament. Ours is to conduct orderly, credible, and highly professional elections,” she emphasised.
She reminded staff of the Commission’s core values of transparency, fairness, and integrity. “We urge you to abide by the values and motto of the Commission. Let truth guide you. Be fair, transparent, and above board. Follow the directions provided, including accurate vote counting and professional completion of forms.”
The EC Chairperson further charged polling staff to uphold their responsibilities with a high level of professionalism, noting the significance of their work at polling stations. “Your work culminates in the Pink Sheets, which determine the outcome of the election. Do it with integrity and truth, and let God’s light guide you.”
Ms. Mensa reassured staff of the Commission’s trust in their abilities, urging them to ensure every valid vote is counted and accurately reflected. She also noted that the Commission would conduct an internal assessment after the elections to evaluate the performance of its staff.
“When all is said and done, we will assess each and every one of us. Let us do our bit to ensure we can pass the test and continue as one big family determined to make Ghana’s elections world-class,” she concluded.
Wishing them God’s protection and guidance, she expressed hope that the elections would reflect the true choice and will of the Ghanaian people.
