OWASS’ Ampemah-Baah honoured for 3-year NSMQ participation streak

Primetime Limited, the producers of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), has recognised Stephen Kofi Ampemah-Baah of Opoku Ware School (OWASS) for his rare achievement of participating in the national competition for three consecutive years, a journey that began while he was in Form One.

A Historic Debut and Consistent Run

Stephen Kofi Ampemah-Baah first stepped onto the NSMQ stage in 2023 as a 16-year-old Form One student. His inclusion in the team at such a young age was historic for Opoku Ware School and made him one of the youngest contestants in the national tournament that year.

  • 2023: As a Form One student, Stephen was part of the Opoku Ware team that navigated the contests to reach the Grand Finale. His composure and quick thinking, particularly in the riddle rounds, were noted by many observers. Primetime officially honoured him in 2023 for being the first Form One student to compete in the tournament.

  • 2024: Stephen returned to the competition in his second year, continuing his role as a key contestant for the OWASS team.

  • 2025: His participation in the 2025 edition marked his third consecutive appearance at the national level, a testament to his sustained academic excellence and commitment to the quiz.

Recognition at the Closing Ceremony

The contestant’s three-year run highlights his dedication to the competition. His debut in 2023 was a major factor in Opoku Ware School making their 10th final appearance in the history of the NSMQ.

This consistent participation is often cited by commentators as proof that true champions are defined by persistence and the courage to repeatedly engage in high-pressure academic contests.

At the closing ceremony of the 2025 NSMQ, Stephen Kofi Ampemah-Baah received formal recognition for his historic achievement. He was presented with a plaque by Primetime Limited’s Managing Director, Nana Akua Mensa-Bonsu.

The presentation was met with significant applause from the competing schools and the audience, acknowledging his remarkable commitment spanning the entirety of his senior high school education.
