Two suspected armed robbers have been shot dead following a violent robbery incident at Tema, according to the Ghana Police Service.

In a statement issued by the Tema Regional Police Command on April 13, 2026, the incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. at Community 5, where a mobile money (MoMo) vendor was attacked by two men on a motorbike.

Preliminary investigations indicate that one of the suspects, riding as a pillion passenger, approached the vendor under the guise of making a cash-out transaction. As the vendor attempted to process the request, the suspect allegedly pulled a pistol and demanded her bag containing cash. The situation escalated into a struggle when the victim resisted, during which she was shot in the leg before surrendering the bag.

The suspects fled the scene on a black motorbike but were quickly pursued by a police patrol team that had been deployed nearby for an event. Upon reaching a junction near Community 6, the suspects reportedly opened fire on the pursuing officers.

Police returned fire, leading to an exchange of gunshots that left both suspects critically wounded. They reportedly fell off the motorbike and were later transported to the Police Hospital, where they were pronounced dead on arrival.

A search conducted on the suspects led to the retrieval of a 9mm pistol loaded with ammunition, three mobile phones, a Ghana Card, SIM cards, a talisman, a motorbike key, and cash amounting to GH¢11,390. Investigators also recovered a spent cartridge at the robbery scene. Authorities confirmed that the Ghana Card found on the suspects belonged to the victim.

The injured vendor is currently receiving medical treatment and is said to be in stable condition.

The Tema Regional Police Command has assured the public of its continued commitment to maintaining safety and security in the area, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.
