The Ghana Police Service has suspended the interdiction of the three senior personnel currently undergoing interrogation before a parliamentary committee.
In a statement on Thursday evening, the police administration said it will be conducting its own investigations into the leaked tape after the Atta-Akyea-led committee concludes its probe.
This comes after the administration interdicted the three, according to a statement earlier on Thursday.
According to the new statement, however, interdicting Commissioner of Police (COP) Mr. George Alex Mensah, Superintendent Mr. Emmanuel Eric Gyebi, and Superintendent Mr. George Lysander Asare will conflict with the ongoing parliamentary committee hearings.
“In order not to prejudice the ongoing probe, the Police Administration has suspended the interdiction”, the new statement noted in part.
The three officers, together with the former NPP Northern Regional Chairman, Bugri Naabu, are before the parliamentary committee over the leakage of an audio allegedly plotting to remove the Inspector General of Police, George Akuffo Dampare.
In a related development, the IGP, who is at the center of the controversial tape, has reportedly announced his decision not to be part of the investigative and disciplinary set-up within the Ghana Police Service, which will administer disciplinary processes to the three police officers.
According to reports, the Police Management Board (POMAB) and the Police Council will fully handle the process.
