The Ghana Police Service has petitioned the Accra High Court, preventing the Minority in Parliament and other pressure groups from carrying out their Occupy BOG protest on September 5.
The Minority had earlier downplayed a letter by the police asking them to remove the BOG headquarters from the places it intended to march past.
The Minority opined that it had embarked on previous protests around the BOG offices and hence could not agree with the present restriction by the police.
They also threatened to proceed with their planned demonstration, asking the police to prepare to perform their constitutional obligation.
However, in another statement on Wednesday, the police said they had sought legal redress for stopping the opposition from embarking on their demonstration.
“The police, with the best interest of public safety in mind, have been left with no alternative but to seek legal recourse by approaching the court to determine the matter. Accordingly, today, August 30, 2023, the police filed an application with the court.”
The Minority is clamouring for the resignation of the BOG governor and his two deputies for mismanagement of the central bank following a GHC 60.8 billion loss posted in 2022.
