The NPP has allowed appointees of the government and party officeholders to serve as polling agents for any of the individuals contesting the flagbearer position.

The party noted that the aspirants can forthwith appoint any other member of the party as polling agents.

This was contained in a statement signed by the General Secretary, Lawyer Justin Frimpong Kodua, after deliberations by the National Council on August 30, 2023.

According to the statement, “The National Council overruled Regulation 27 of the published guidelines, which barred government appointees and party executives/delegates from acting as polling agents for any aspiring presidential candidate.”

“Consequently, a candidate is entitled to appoint any member of the Party to serve as his polling agent in the ensuing [presidential] elections.”

The party also decided to permit only the National Council vote in the run-off between Messrs. Boakye Agyarko and Francis-Addai Nimoh, citing efficient use of resources.

But, in a statement on Thursday, Boakye Agyarko stated that he would not participate in the run-off.

He slammed the party for changing its mind on an already agreed-upon process for the presidential elections.

The main process to elect a flagbearer for the party is slated for November 4 and will be among Kennedy Agyapong, Alan Kyermateng, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and a yet-to-be-confirmed fifth candidate.
