The Ministry of Roads and Highways says it has taken note of recent concerns about the numerous potholes on asphalted roads.
In a statement on June 14, the Ministry said it is putting in significant efforts to expand the country’s road network while conducting maintenance work on the existing ones.
“Generally, significant volumes of work are being done to expand the nation’s road network and undertake periodic and routine maintenance on the existing one”, the Ministry observed.
It blamed the recent potholed roads on the rainy season, adding that their team is always on standby to fix any such roads through its emergency maintenance program.
“The rainy season always causes some deterioration to some old roads, which are quickly attended to through the Ministry’s emergency response program.”
“The Ministry wishes to assure the public that measures are being put in place to address the critical sections of the roads that have gone bad throughout the country upon the onset of [the] rains”, the statement added.
Agitations by the public about the many potholes in their communities dominated social media earlier in the month.
