The 4th International SIPAB Conference and Exhibition dubbed SIPAB SUMMIT ACCRA 2024, held at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) – Food Research Institute Premises, Shiashie, Accra, came to a successful end on Friday 8th of March 2024.
The theme for this year’s two-day summit was Promoting Multilateral and Intra-African Trade in the Food and Agriculture Industry. The event enhanced economic development by bringing substantial African businesses together with other regional and international stakeholders to facilitate mutually beneficial partnerships in agriculture, innovation, and technology.
Speaking to the media, the Director of the CSIR Food Research Institute, Professor Charles Tortoe, shed more light on the programme. He said the aim of the programme was to see how the best higher-value products made in Ghana could be marketed and sold within and beyond the borders of Ghana.
Also present at the event was Mr. Jimmy Eko-Acquah, the head of the Shout Africa Foundation and the SIPAB Project lead. The special guest of the seminar, Mr. Raffaele Quarto, the trade counsellor from the Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Ghana, talked about the available opportunities offered by the EU to Ghanaian businesses to explore, which include access to European markets.
The seminar had interesting discussions on subjects such as Strengthening Multilateral Collaboration for Economic Transformation, Building Women in Agritrade through Intra-regional Trade and Financial Support, and New Marketing Trends in the Food Industry.
Speakers at the event included Juliana Adubofour, Senior Business Advisor from the Ghana Enterprise Agency (GEA), who presented their agency’s “Business in the Box” project in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation to create jobs for 250,000 young people in Ghana.
Other speakers included representatives from the GIZ-WIDU platform, Till Schmeing, who serves as an advisor at Employment Promotion with the diaspora, Dr. Loretta Sarpong, a retail banking expert from Ecobank Ghana, Dr. Rose Omare, the deputy director of the CSIR-Science and Technology Policy Research Institute, and Kwaku Yamoah Kyei with the Ghana Skills Development Fund, among others.
Small and medium enterprises from all sixteen regions of the country participated in the programme with various products and services to offer.
This event was supported by Pan-African Investment UG and the exchange students from Eberswalder University, under the leadership of Silas Gronbach.
SIPAB is an initiative by the Shout Africa Foundation that seeks to promote economic growth via partnerships and the exchange of ideas and knowledge on business development acumen through networking. Over the past years, three immensely successful editions of the SIPAB Conference and Exhibition have been held in the vibrant cities of Hamburg, Berlin, and Accra.
