Ghana has been included in the South African e-Visa program, making it possible for Ghanaians to apply for visas to South Africa online rather than in person at the South African High Commission.
Furthermore, as indicated in a formal announcement from the South African High Commission on September 28, anyone whose passports were withheld for longer than three months as a result of this adjustment can now pick them up at the VFS Global Office.
“The High Commission of the Republic of South Africa wishes to inform that Ghana has been added by the Government of the Republic of South Africa on the E Visa list, which means that Ghanaian Nationals can apply online for visas to South Africa without visiting the High Commission.” The statement read.
“The information is available on the portal of the Department of Home Affairs of the Republic of South Africa. Ghanaians are urged to visit the following website, www.dha.gov.za, to obtain more information,” the statement added.
The High Commission did, however, mention that upon arrival at the point of entry, the usual requirements—including passport information, a letter of invitation or proof of lodging, and a bank statement—would be reviewed.
Local stakeholders in the travel industry have, meanwhile, praised the choice as one that will expand their businesses.
