Special Prosecutor declares Ofori-Atta wanted, with disclaimer of “innocent until proven guilty”

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has issued a wanted notice for Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta, former Finance Minister of Ghana, in connection with multiple corruption-related cases.

Ofori-Atta, 66, is wanted to respond to charges involving the Strategic Mobilisation-GRA contract, termination of the ECG-BXC contract, National Cathedral payments, ambulance procurement contract, and tax refund account utilisation.

Described as a male with black eyes, black hair, and brown skin, Ofori-Atta is believed to be in the United States of America (USA) or the United Kingdom (UK).

The OSP is urging anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact them via call or WhatsApp at 0554494499 or 0554484488.

“All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law,” the OSP emphasized, maintaining the importance of due process in its legal proceedings.

The notice, however, includes a disclaimer stating, “All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.”

Last week, the OSP declared Mr. Ofori-Atta a fugitive from justice due to ongoing corruption investigations—a move some critics, including the New Patriotic Party (NPP), have described as prejudicial.

Mr. Ofori-Atta’s lawyers have maintained that the former minister is undergoing medical treatment in the USA, with a tentative return date of March 2025, contingent on being declared fit.
