The Office of the Special Prosecutor has frozen the assets of the late Kwadwo Owusu Afriye (aka Sir John), sources from the office have revealed.

According to the sources, processes are underway to freeze his foreign assets as well.

On May 26, 2022, the Office of the Special Prosecutor says it has launched a full scale investigation into alleged corruption and corruption-related activities involving the acquisition of properties by the late Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, also known as Sir John.

A leaked document purporting to be the will of the late former NPP General Secretary and former CEO of the Forestry Commission found its way onto social media last month. Sections of the document singled out three people to receive plots of land within the Achimota Forest.

Following this, there have been agitations from a section of Ghanaians on the purported wealth garnered by the former chief scribe of the NPP.

On May 24, Corruption Watch Ghana petitioned the Office of the Special Prosecutor to investigate the alleged acquisition of several acres of alleged state lands situated in the Achimota Forest and Ramsar sites in Sakumono.

More details soon.
