St. John the Evangelist Catholic School in Adentan held its annual speech and prize-giving day on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
The event celebrated the school’s academic and extracurricular achievements, highlighting the importance of a holistic Catholic education.
The guest speaker, Mr. Rispah Kwashie, a lawyer by profession, praised the event’s theme: “Accessing Quality Catholic Basic Education: The Role of Stakeholders.” He commended the organisers for the theme’s relevance, stating, “Catholic education touches all parts of the human body and also takes care of the spiritual development of any child in any Catholic school.”
Mr. Kwashie further explained the concept of stakeholders, referring to the Cambridge Dictionary definition: “A stakeholder is a person, such as employees, customers, or citizens, who are involved in an organisation or society and have a responsibility towards it and an interest in its success.” He emphasised that everyone present at the event, including teachers, students, and parents, were stakeholders in the school’s success. “Indeed, Catholic education touches the hand, the heart, and the head, and it also takes care of spiritual development. This indeed is holistic education,” he stressed.
Headmistress Madam Patience Andoh highlighted the school’s recent achievements, particularly during the 2023-2024 academic year. She expressed pride in the school’s performance in national competitions, saying, “The 2023-2024 academic year was a period of notable achievements for St. John the Evangelist Catholic School. Our students have excelled in sports and distinguished themselves in national competitions. These achievements are the result of the dedicated efforts of our teachers, supportive parents, and hard-working students.”
Madam Andoh also acknowledged the personal growth and resilience shown by the students over the years. “Your curiosity, creativity, and commitment have not only prepared you for personal success but have also enriched the entire school environment,” she added.
During the ceremony, outstanding students from kindergarten to junior high school were awarded for their hard work and perseverance. Notable among them was Fivonsi Maria, who earned the top scorer award in five subjects, including science. She expressed her commitment to pursuing medicine at the tertiary level.
The event featured various performances, including drama, cultural displays, and choreography. Teaching and non-teaching staff were also recognised for their contributions to the students’ academic growth.
St. John the Baptist Catholic School emphasised its commitment to providing quality education, citing its experienced teachers, effective supervision, conducive learning environment, good ICT facilities, and hygienic surroundings as reasons why parents should choose the school for their wards.
