The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has urged the Ghana Education Service to immediately reinstate the suspended headmistress of West Africa Senior High School (WASS), Dr. Shine Agatha Ofori.
In response to accusations that she had been charging pupils for services that weren’t approved, the Ghana Education Service (GES) decided to detain Dr. Ofori. NAGRAT thinks that this action represents broader difficulties that senior high schools all around the nation face.
Mr. Angel Carbonu, the president of NAGRAT, stated during a press conference today that the headmistress did nothing illegal.
Mr. Carbonu also accused the government of using the headmistress as a scapegoat and called on them to direct their efforts towards improving service delivery and increasing funding in schools nationwide.
“The issue goes beyond West Africa Senior High School; it is a nationwide problem. Singling out headteachers in this manner is absolutely wrong and unacceptable,” Mr. Carbonu asserted.
The management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) interdicted Dr. Ofori for the alleged collection of unauthorised fees from students on Thursday, July 20, 2023.
She was asked to hand over the administration of the school to the Greater Accra Regional Director of Education pending the final determination of the case by the Regional Disciplinary Committee.
