Residents in parts of the Kumasi Metropolitan Area and surrounding communities are expected to experience temporary water supply disruptions following a planned shutdown of the Barekese Water Treatment Plant for urgent maintenance works.
Ghana Water Ltd has announced that critical repair works will be carried out on a transmission pipeline serving the facility.
According to management, the intervention is necessary to safeguard the integrity of the pipeline and ensure the continued reliability and efficiency of water delivery.
The shutdown, which forms part of routine but essential infrastructure maintenance, will take place from 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, 9 June 2026, to 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, 11 June 2026. Management acknowledged the disruption the exercise may cause but emphasized that the works are necessary to enhance long-term service delivery.
“Management regrets any inconvenience that may result from this critical maintenance exercise and advises customers to store adequate water for use during the shutdown period,” the statement noted.
The utility provider further assured the public that all efforts are being made to complete the repairs within schedule and restore full production immediately upon completion of the works. I
t stressed that the intervention is part of broader measures aimed at improving system resilience and ensuring sustainable water supply services.
