The Education Ministry has refuted reports on social media that the government is considering the cancellation of allowances for teachers and nurses in training.
News was making the rounds earlier this week linked to the Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, that the government planned on withdrawing the allowances due to a lack of funds.
“There is no money, and the government cannot continue to pay teachers’ and nurses’ training allowances. The government is considering canceling allowances for teachers and nursing students”, the supposed fake report stated.
But in a rebuttal on Friday, the Education Ministry stated that “the statement attributed to the Minister of Education, Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, regarding the cancellation of allowances for teachers and nursing students is categorically false and unfounded. The Ministry of Education denies any such claims or intentions to terminate these allowances.”
“We understand the importance of supporting and prioritizing the training of teachers, and the government remains committed to providing the necessary financial assistance in those areas,” the statement added.
