The Vice President, Her Excellency Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, is set to receive further medical treatment abroad following a sudden illness, according to an official statement from the Presidency.
A press release issued on Sunday by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister for Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, confirmed that Vice President Opoku-Agyemang was taken to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) on Saturday after falling ill on Friday, March 28, 2025, after work.
While details of her condition remain undisclosed, the statement noted that medical experts have recommended additional treatment outside the country.
The Presidency extended its well wishes for her speedy recovery.
Vice President Opoku-Agyemang, 73, a distinguished academic and stateswoman, has served as the country’s second-in-command since assuming office.
News of her illness has drawn widespread concern, with many Ghanaians offering prayers and support for her recovery.
The development has also reignited debate over whether public officials should seek medical care abroad instead of investing in and strengthening local healthcare facilities.
