This year’s Telecommunication and Information Society Day was celebrated in Ghana on Friday, May 17, 2024, at the National Communications Authority Towers in Accra.

Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Minister for Communication and Digitalization, encouraged Ghanaians to use innovations in order to address developmental obstacles and provide opportunities for entrepreneurial development.

She said that being innovative will make lives more comfortable for both individuals and businesses.

According to the minister, the theme for this year’s celebration, “Digital Innovation for Sustainable Development, reflected an agreement made in international forums that sustainable goals can be achieved only when member countries employ the services of digital technology.

She added that the Nana Addo Bawumia-led government aims to build a sustainable future in its quest to meet the target of the SDGs, which requires creative thought and action while formulating policies for the benefit of all.

“We’ve reached the stage where the world is also advocating for innovations to solve developmental issues and also offer opportunities for entrepreneurial development. The theme for this year’s celebrations is digital innovation for sustainable development, and a strong case has also been made in international forums that the agreed sustainable goals can be facilitated only when we utilise digital technology.”.

“So this government aims to build a sustainable future in our quests to meet the target of the SDGs, which requires us to employ innovative thinking and actions in our policy formulation with a common good.”

Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful further posited that technology is now a necessity, promoting digital innovation to solve societal challenges and significantly improve living conditions.

“Technology is no longer an option but a necessity, and for all of us, it is the way to go, and so we are actively promoting digital innovative technology to solve the many challenges that we face and to enable us to lip-frog our current situations and live to improve living conditions for us all,” Mrs. Ekuful said.

She added that the ministry is mindful of some of the challenges in the communication sector and is doing everything possible to see them resolved completely.
