WR: Police Arrest 9 More Persons; Recover 3 Additional Excavators Over Galamsey

The police state that they have arrested nine (9) more suspects and recovered three (3) additional excavators in the Western Region in an operation similar to the ones conducted earlier this week.

The police disclosed that the suspects, 3 Chinese and 6 Ghanaians, were wielding 3 pump-action guns.

This brings to seventeen (17) the number of people arrested and the excavators retrieved by the police in similar night operations in the region, who are allegedly involved in illegal mining or “galamsey”.

On September 8, the police arrested five Chinese suspects, Shi Zhong Qix, Wei Lin Xi, Huang Qian Xi, Li Jian Wen, and Huang Qian Sheng, via an intelligence-led operation through the night of September 7th till the dawn of September 8th.

Before this, it had carried out an operation in Ellembelle that led to the recovery of an excavator that was missing from the region and the arrest of three people. This same operation led to the arrest of the DCE for the area, Kwesi Bonzo, who has since been granted police enquiry bail.
