The Chairman for Political Affairs of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Kwame Jantuah, has condemned the respective comments of the former President, John Dramani Mahama, and President Nana Akufo-Addo on the composition of the judiciary.
In an interview with GhOne TV on Tuesday, followed by The Sikaman Times, Lawyer Jantuah explained that there is no need to politicize everything, including the partisan positions taken by both personalities.
“I don’t agree with President Mahama saying what he said because when he came into power, he could do what he wanted to do. I don’t agree with President Akufo-Addo going to stand on such a platform and then doing party politics. It is not a stage for party politics, and we can’t always be politicking everywhere we go.”
“I didn’t see anything wrong if President Mahama said NDC lawyers should also think of going to the bench. If he stopped there, fine. What President Akufo-Addo also said was that he was condemning what John Mahama said. If he stopped at the condemnation, fine,” he added.
He argued that what the country needs now is unity; hence, the president should ensure to promote unity within the last few months in office.
“Where we are today in Ghana, we need unity; where we are today in Ghana, we need to find solutions to our problems, and so this kind of banter has to stop.”
Mr. Mahama had accused President Akufo-Addo of stacking the judiciary with officers aligned with his administration in order to further its interests.
However, while condemning the comments of Mr. Mahama at the 2023 Ghana Bar Association conference, President Akufo-Addo alluded to the unsolved Airbus case that implicated Mr. Mahama and described him as a perennial loser.
