Ahead of Ghana’s general elections on December 7, former Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Prof. Opoku Onyinah, has called on Ghanaians to approach the democratic process with prayer, thoughtfulness, and a commitment to peace.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, Apostle Onyinah underscored the importance of casting a vote for leaders who embody integrity and good governance, emphasising that while God does not directly choose leaders, He works through the choices made by citizens.
“God will not directly choose a leader for us; He has chosen to work through humanity. Therefore, you must prayerfully and thoughtfully use your reasoning to make a wise choice,” he wrote, citing biblical examples of leaders like Cyrus and Darius, whom God used to fulfil His purposes.
The renowned theologian also urged citizens to place trust in Ghana’s electoral systems, describing them as “sound and reliable,” while cautioning against being swayed into violence or chaos by selfish politicians or individuals.
He emphasised the need for both winners and losers to accept the results with humility, noting that democracy thrives when all participants prioritise peace and unity over personal ambition.
“It is crucial to plan for success and also prepare to accept defeat. If the election outcome were predetermined, there would be no need for voting. Leadership is not achieved through violence, abuse, or manipulation,” Apostle Onyinah stated.
He further distinguished between politicians who seek power for control and true statesmen who aim to serve the nation selflessly, challenging citizens to reflect on their values as they make their electoral choices.
Apostle Onyinah concluded by praying for divine guidance during the elections, expressing hope for a peaceful and fruitful outcome that all Ghanaians can celebrate together.
