A 47-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment with hard labour by the Lawra Circuit Court after he was convicted of incest and threatening to kill his 17-year-old biological daughter.

The Ghana Police Service announced the conviction in a statement issued by the Upper West Regional Public Affairs Unit on Sunday, July 26, 2026.

According to the statement, the court, presided over by His Honour Stanley Adjei, found Kwame Ti-Zaaekuu guilty after a full trial on July 24, 2026.

The police said Ti-Zaaekuu was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for incest and a further 10 years for threatening to cause death. The court ordered the sentences to run concurrently.

The police said investigations by the Lawra District Police, which began after a complaint was lodged, established that Ti-Zaaekuu had sexually abused his 17-year-old daughter over an extended period and threatened to kill her if she disclosed the abuse to anyone.

The statement said the conviction followed investigations by the Lawra District Police and the successful prosecution of the case before the court.

The court also directed the Department of Social Welfare in Lawra to provide counselling and psychosocial support to the survivor.
