Equatorial Guinea will host a high-level continental meeting on Sunday, July 13, as senior African leaders and policymakers gather in Malabo for the Malabo Leaders’ Breakfast.

The event is being held under the patronage of President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo and is jointly organised by the Africa Prosperity Network (APN) and Invest Equatorial Guinea, in collaboration with the Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Scheduled ahead of the African Union’s 7th Mid-Year Coordination Meeting, the breakfast meeting will focus on practical measures to support the movement of people, goods, and services across the continent—an issue that remains central to the African Union’s integration agenda.

Themed “Financing and Facilitating the Movement of People, Goods, and Services Across Africa,” discussions will explore persistent obstacles to intra-African trade and mobility, including infrastructure deficits, visa policies, and regulatory challenges.

Sidig El Toum, Executive Director of the Africa Prosperity Network, noted: “Malabo takes us from diagnosis to practice. We will translate commitments into concrete financing and implementation of policies for free movement, starting with the Dollar a Day Fund.”

A notable feature of the event will be the introduction of the Integrated Infrastructure Growth Fund for Africa, first proposed by Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma at the 2025 Africa Prosperity Dialogues.

The initiative seeks to mobilise financial contributions from the African middle class to support infrastructure development, with the aim of raising up to $20 billion annually for transport and digital connectivity projects.

The meeting will centre on key priorities such as improving intra-African mobility, reducing logistical costs, advancing the implementation of the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM), exploring sustainable crowdfunding models for infrastructure development, and presenting Equatorial Guinea’s emerging role in regional investment.

The gathering is expected to bring together heads of state, African Union officials, government ministers, representatives of Regional Economic Communities (RECs), and leaders of development finance institutions, along with stakeholders from sectors such as aviation, banking, logistics, telecommunications, and technology.

The event also forms part of Equatorial Guinea’s broader effort to contribute to regional cooperation and to strengthen its engagement with initiatives under the AfCFTA framework.
