The Office of the Former President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has categorically denied media reports suggesting that he intends to seek an audience with President John Dramani Mahama to secure assurances for the return of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
In a rejoinder dated December 16, 2025, the Office described the publication—originating from the The Herald Newspaper and subsequently carried by other outlets—as “utterly false” and a “total fabrication.”
“The Office wishes to state emphatically that this publication is utterly false,” the statement said, adding that the former President “has neither contemplated such a consideration nor expressly or impliedly made any such request or representation to President John Dramani Mahama, his agent(s) or assign(s).”
The rejoinder further underscored Mr. Akufo-Addo’s long-held commitment to constitutional governance and legal processes. “As a firm believer in democratic tenets, Nana Akufo-Addo’s fidelity to the Rule of Law has never been in question,” it stressed.
Addressing public interest in the matter, the Office acknowledged that the fate of Mr. Ofori-Atta remains a concern to the former President, noting both familial and professional ties.
“It is true that the fate of Mr. Ofori Atta is of considerable concern to the Former President because after all apart from Mr Ofori Atta being his cousin, more importantly, he was the Minister for Finance in both the governments of his mandate,” the statement said.
However, the Office was quick to draw a line between concern and interference. “That concern does not extend to wanting to interfere with the rule of law,” it added, expressing hope that the clarification would “set the records straight on this matter.”
The Office also demanded that media houses which published the initial claim reproduce the rejoinder in line with the former President’s rights.
