President Nana Akufo-Addo is finally set to announce major changes to his cabinet shortly, according to various sources, including social media.

According to one of the reports, a close-door cabinet meeting was held on Friday, February 9, 2024, where the President announced plans to reorganise his cabinet, reassigning some ministers and dismissing others.

There have been calls from many quarters, including the pro-NPP groups, to the President to reshuffle his team in the spirit of renewing confidence in his government.

However, the President, whose term of office will expire in December, has on several occasions backed the performance of his cabinet as “excellent.”.

The latest call for a reshuffle came from NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua at the Thanksgiving Service of the party in December last year.

Last week, NPP presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia announced key measures he will be implementing, if voted for, including a significantly reduced number of ministers.

Prior to that, 24 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) were sacked by President Akufo-Addo, with others replacing them.

The last cabinet shuffle occurred last year when former Ministers of Trade Alan Kyerematen and Agriculture Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto left to concentrate on their electoral campaigns. They were replaced by K. T. Hammond and Bryan Acheampong, respectively.

In addition, former Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Ebenezer Kojo Kum exited in February 2023 on health grounds and was replaced by Stephen Asamoah Boateng.
