The Ministry of Finance has dismissed claims of outstanding salary arrears involving newly recruited Ghana Education Service (GES) staff, saying all 6,300 employees covered by a government payment arrangement have been paid.
The clarification follows an appeal by the Coalition of Unpaid Newly Posted Staff of the GES over alleged outstanding salaries and arrears.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, the Ministry said the affected staff were among 6,300 GES employees recruited in 2024 without financial clearance before the current government assumed office.
“In 2025, the Government inherited 6,300 GES staff who had been recruited in 2024 without financial clearance,” the Ministry said.
According to the Ministry, steps were subsequently taken to address the salary concerns of the affected workers.
“To address their salary payment concerns, the Ministry secured Cabinet approval and issued the required financial clearance for payment in four tranches,” it stated.
The Ministry said the process had been completed, stressing that “all 6,300 staff covered by this arrangement have been paid.”
It further clarified that there are currently no outstanding requests for financial clearance from the GES awaiting action by the Ministry of Finance.
“The Ministry further clarifies that there are no outstanding requests for financial clearance from the GES awaiting action by the Ministry of Finance,” the statement said.
The Ministry, however, acknowledged that individual staff may still have unresolved payroll or administrative issues and directed such employees to seek assistance from the GES.
“Any staff member with an unresolved salary or arrears issue is advised to contact the Ghana Education Service for assistance with the relevant payroll or administrative matter,” it said.
The Ministry’s clarification comes amid concerns from newly posted GES staff over delays in receiving their salaries and arrears.
