Protestors of the Arise Ghana movement have convened at El Wak Stadium to continue their planned demonstration against general economic hardship.
The “Krom Aye She” protesters will be marching to Parliament House on the second day from the El-Wak Sports Stadium, where they will present a petition.
The Sikaman Times can report that the high level of tension, hostility, and media attention that featured on Tuesday has not been very present in Wednesday’s demonstration. Also, there has been a reduction in the number of people out on the streets to protest. However, armed security personnel have taken guard at the front of the Jubilee House, supposedly to ward off any raid by the protestors.
On Tuesday, the protestors gathered at the popular Obra Spot en route through the Ring Road to the Jubilee House but were prevented by armed police personnel who indicated that it would be against the order of the court.
The demonstration, which was characterized by violence and destruction, saw protesters pelting stones at the police while the police released tear gas and water cannons, injuring some police personnel and protestors in the process.
Meanwhile, the National Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Opare Addo, has indicated in a brief interview with the press that the leadership of the Arise Ghana group will submit to any lawful police invites and procedures.
The police, in a statement on Monday, revealed that 29 people who had participated in the demonstration had been arrested for various actions that contravened the Public Order Act.
It also noted that the leadership of the Arise Ghana movement will be arrested and processed for court for attacks and damage to property, contrary to section 3 of the Public Order Act (Act 491).
But, at a press conference on Tuesday, the leaders of the pressure group accused the police of planting their personnel in the procession to cause mayhem.
