Vociferous performer, Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, has been fined GHC2,000 by the Accra Circuit Court for asserting on social media that he was shot in October last year.

Failure to pay the fine will result in the musician serving a three-month prison term.

Shatta Wale was fined by Emmanuel Essandoh, the presiding judge, after he admitted to publishing fake news.

Wale had initially pleaded not guilty to the crime, but today amended his plea after his attorneys asked the court to show pity and reduce his punishment.

Media reports in October last year suggested that Shatta Wale had been shot by some unidentified gunmen, which information was gleaned from the artiste’s Twitter page.

According to reports, his personal aide, Nana Dhope, revealed to the media that the incident really did happen in East Legon.

According to the story, Nana Dhope said that Shatta Wale was receiving care at an unidentified hospital after he managed to flee from his assailants.

A few hours later, Shatta Wale claimed in a social media post that he staged the assault due to the death prophecy made by Stephen Akwasi, better known as Jesus Ahuofe, the founder and head of New Life Kingdom Chapel International.

Although Shatta Wale apologised to his teeming followers who had been hurt by his prank, he was nonetheless detained for two nights by police after turning himself in.
