On Monday, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia presented the name of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh to the executive of his party, confirming weeks of speculation about the Energy Minister’s candidature.

This was revealed in a Facebook post by the National Organiser of the NPP, Henry Nana Boakye, also known as Nana B.

“H.E. Bawumia has today, July 1, 2024, formally informed the National Officers of the NPP of his nomination of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO) as his running mate in the upcoming 2024 general elections.”

“The meeting, which occurred at the NPP’s headquarters in Asylum Down, follows an earlier presentation of Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s nomination to the majority caucus of Parliament’, Nana B said.

Nana B noted further that “the nomination, however, awaits the decision of the National Council, which is the final approving organ of the NPP.”

Meanwhile, the National Executive Committee and National Council of the NPP are both set to meet on Thursday, July 4, 2024, over the candidature of Dr. Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO.

NAPO’s likely emergence as Dr. Bawumia’s right-hand man means he would have overtaken key contenders for the running mate slot, including former EPA boss Henry Kwabena Kokofu and Education Minister Yaw Osei Adutwum.
