The High Court in Accra has fixed July 3, 2026, for judgment in the criminal trial involving the Republic and Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, and two others, after the defence concluded its case.
Deputy Attorney-General, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, in a social media update, confirmed that the defence has closed its evidence after calling its fifth and final witness.
He wrote: “The Accused Persons in the case – THE REPUBLIC v BERNARD ANTWI-BOASIAKO & 2 OTHERS – called their 5th and last witness today. The witness was discharged from the witness box a while ago. That brought the entire trial to an end.”
With both prosecution and defence now having closed their cases, the matter has formally been adjourned for judgment.
The case, which has drawn significant public attention due to the involvement of a prominent political figure, has gone through months of hearings at the High Court in Accra.
Proceedings included the presentation of prosecution witnesses, followed by the defence opening its case after the court determined that there was sufficient evidence requiring a response.
In earlier rulings, the court held that the prosecution had established a prima facie case, compelling the accused persons to enter a defence. The defence subsequently called witnesses in support of their case before concluding their testimony this week.
