In celebration of Financial Literacy Month, the Centre for Financial Literacy Education Africa (CFLE Africa), in collaboration with Prudential Life Insurance Ghana, has launched a Community Market Outreach Program aimed at promoting financial literacy and economic empowerment across major market centres in Ghana.
The programme, which kicked off last Thursday at the Madina Market in Accra, has already made a significant impact, reaching over 300 market participants, including traders, vendors, and micro-entrepreneurs.
Over the coming weeks, the outreach will extend to six additional key markets: Kumasi Central Market, Sunyani Market, Koforidua Market, Tudu Market, Ashaiman Market, and Takoradi Market Circle.
The outreach programme is designed to bring essential financial education directly to the people, meeting them where they live and work. It covers key topics such as budgeting, saving, debt management, insurance, and retirement planning, with a special focus on small business finance and informal sector inclusion.
Madam Kokui Bulley, Chief Strategy Officer at Prudential Life Insurance Ghana, emphasized the importance of financial literacy in a developing economy like Ghana’s:
“Financial literacy is a powerful tool that empowers individuals to make informed decisions, secure their futures, and contribute to the economic growth of our nation. This initiative reflects our commitment to fostering a culture of financial wellbeing across all sectors of society.”
Market participants have responded with enthusiasm and appreciation, highlighting the relevance and timeliness of the sessions. Many noted that the information provided was practical, easy to understand, and applicable to their daily financial decisions.
The initiative aligns with this year’s Financial Literacy Month theme: “Building Wealth, Changing Lives: Strengthening Communities through Personal and Business Financial Education.” It reinforces the belief that sustainable development begins with financially informed citizens who can make confident, empowered choices for themselves and their families.
As part of the outreach, free educational materials, one-on-one coaching, and access to financial products such as micro-insurance and savings plans are being offered to help participants apply what they learn.
CFLE Africa and Prudential Life Insurance Ghana are calling on stakeholders across government, civil society, and the private sector to invest more in grassroots financial education initiatives. Together, they believe, Ghana can build a future where every individual, regardless of their background, has the knowledge and tools to thrive financially.
The Community Market Outreach Program will continue throughout the month of April and is open to the public.
