Heavy overnight and Monday morning rains have caused widespread flooding across parts of Accra, leaving several major roads waterlogged and disrupting Monday morning traffic.
Key transport corridors, including the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange and sections of the N1 Highway, experienced severe gridlock as floodwaters slowed vehicular movement.
Several vehicles were stranded beneath the railway overpass near the Spintex Road Roundabout, while commuters travelling from Kasoa towards the central business district faced long delays around the Weija Barrier and Mallam.
Residents in low-lying communities, including Achimota, Lapaz, Dzorwulu, Kaneshie and areas around the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange, reported floodwaters entering homes and business premises, forcing occupants to move belongings to safer locations.
Some motorists also abandoned their vehicles after roads became impassable.
Among the hardest-hit areas were Abeka, Lapaz, Achimota, Tesano, Tantra, Apenkwa and Darkuman Junction in the north and west of the capital. Flooding was also reported along Spintex Road, Dzorwulu and Atomic Junction in Madina, as well as on the Accra-Kasoa stretch of the N1 Highway, Weija, Mallam, the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange and Kaneshie.
Meanwhile, fresh reports indicate that buildings around the Keta Lagoon in the Volta Region have been submerged following heavy rains that triggered flooding.
The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) attributed the downpour to a rainstorm moving westwards from the Togo-Benin coastline.
According to GMet, unsettled weather conditions are expected to persist throughout Monday, with thunderstorms and intermittent rainfall forecast across much of southern Ghana as the weather system advances inland.
Along the southern coast, including Aflao, Anloga, Accra and Kasoa, morning thunderstorms are expected to give way to afternoon rain, while Cape Coast and Takoradi are likely to experience thunderstorms later in the day.
In the forest belt, including Ho, Koforidua, Kumasi and Obuasi, afternoon thunderstorms are forecast, with early morning mist expected to reduce visibility in some areas.
Northern Ghana is expected to remain relatively stable, with cloudy conditions and sunny intervals. However, isolated thunderstorms are forecast over parts of the transition zone later in the day.
Temperatures are expected to reach about 30°C along the coast and up to 35°C across northern Ghana.
