The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has warned that thunderstorms accompanied by rain will persist across parts of southern Ghana on Monday, following heavy overnight and early morning downpours that triggered flooding and traffic disruptions in parts of Accra.
In its Monday morning weather forecast issued on June 29, GMet said thunderstorms with rain are expected to continue through the morning and into the afternoon over sections of the southern half of the country.
The latest forecast comes after torrential rains inundated several communities in Accra, leaving major roads flooded, stranding vehicles and causing severe traffic congestion on key routes, including sections of the N1 Highway, Spintex Road, the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange and the Accra-Kasoa corridor.
The agency has advised the public to remain alert as unstable weather conditions persist, warning that further rainfall could worsen flooding in low-lying and flood-prone communities.
Motorists have also been urged to exercise caution, particularly on waterlogged roads where visibility may be reduced during thunderstorms.
Residents living in flood-prone areas are encouraged to monitor weather updates and take the necessary precautions to safeguard lives and property as the weather system continues to affect southern Ghana.
