The Accra High Court (Criminal Division) has on Wednesday granted the former Chief Executive Officer of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA), Adjenim Boateng Adjei, and his brother-in-law, Francis Kwaku Arhin, bail in the sum of GH5 million with two sureties.
Although Mr. Adjei will have to deposit his passport with the court resistry until the final determination of the case, his brother-in-law needn’t do so since he is a UK citizen.
The case has been adjourned to June 28, 2022.
The Special Prosecutor, Lawyer Kissi Agyebeng, on May 18 charged Mr. Adjei “with eight (8) counts of using public office for profit and nine (9) counts of indirectly and directly influencing the procurement process to obtain an unfair advantage in the award of a procurement contract.”
Mr. Adjei’s brother-in-law, Francis Kwaku Arhin, was also charged with one (1) count of using public office for profit.
Meanwhile, the special prosecutor has said that his outfit has enough evidence to press the case.
Speaking to the media after Wednesday’s proceedings, he said they would not relent to continuing with the case in the interest of the public.
“I have my firm conviction that we have every evidence to see the accused prosecuted for procurement breaches,” he said.
