German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has arrived in Accra for a three-day state visit aimed at deepening bilateral ties between Ghana and Germany.
President Steinmeier touched down at the Kotoka International Airport on Sunday evening, where he was received by Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and the German Ambassador to Ghana, Frederik Landshöft.
The visit marks the German leader’s first official trip to Ghana since assuming office and underscores growing cooperation between the two nations in areas such as trade, investment, technology, and development.
Official engagements begin on Monday, when President Steinmeier will be welcomed with a full military guard of honour at the Forecourt of the Presidency before holding a private meeting with his host, President John Dramani Mahama. The two leaders will later lead their respective delegations in bilateral talks at the Credentials Room.
A state luncheon will be held in honour of the visiting president and his delegation at the Presidential Banquet Hall in the afternoon.
President Steinmeier will travel to Kumasi on the third day of his visit, where he is expected to perform a sod-cutting ceremony at the Kumasi Technical Institute. He will also visit the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology to interact with its vice chancellor, staff, and alumni, and tour the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research.
The German president will round off his visit with a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace before departing Ghana on Tuesday evening.
