The ECOWAS Community Court has dismissed all seven claims filed by former Chief Justice Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Torkornoo against the Republic of Ghana, according to the Deputy Attorney-General, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai.
In a post shared on social media, Dr. Srem-Sai described the ruling as a complete victory for the State, noting that the Court rejected the entirety of the legal action brought before it.
“The ECOWAS Community Court has, a while ago, dismissed all of the 7 claims which the former Chief Justice, Her Ladyship, Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, brought against our beloved Republic,” he stated.
The case included a claim for US$10 million in damages. However, the Court declined to make any award on reparations, citing its findings on alleged rights violations.
“In respect of Her Ladyship’s claim for US$ 10 million damages, the Court held that ‘in light of the Court’s conclusions that Ghana has not violated any of the Applicant’s rights under the African Charter as alleged, the Court makes no decision on reparations,’” Dr. Srem-Sai quoted.
He further commended the legal team representing the State, praising their preparation and commitment throughout the proceedings.
