The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has dismissed Black Stars head coach Otto Addo with immediate effect following a series of poor results, casting uncertainty over the team’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The decision was confirmed in a statement issued early Tuesday, shortly after Ghana’s 2–1 defeat to Germany — their fourth straight loss. The GFA said, “The decision takes immediate effect,” adding that a “new technical direction” will be announced soon.
The Association expressed gratitude to the outgoing coach, stating: “The Association wishes to thank Otto Addo sincerely for his contribution to the team and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavours.”
Addo’s exit comes less than 100 days before the World Cup, raising concerns about stability and readiness. Heavy defeats to Austria and Germany exposed tactical weaknesses and lack of cohesion, intensifying scrutiny over his leadership.
While Addo guided Ghana to an unbeaten World Cup qualification campaign, his overall record — eight wins, five draws and nine losses since March 2024 — failed to convince critics. Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations further weakened confidence.
The GFA now faces the urgent task of appointing a new coach as Ghana prepares to face Panama, England and Croatia in a difficult group.
