The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has commenced investigations into an alleged extortion incident involving a Customs Officer at the Accra International Airport.

The investigation follows a video circulating on social media by TikToker Lady Rev. Adwoa Pretty, who alleged that a Customs Officer stationed at the airport collected GH¢600 from her without issuing a receipt.

In a statement, the GRA said it had taken note of the allegations and assured the public that the matter was being investigated.

“The GRA wishes to assure the public that, the Authority has commenced investigation into the matter and will update the general public on the findings when completed,” the statement said.

The Authority said it remained committed to maintaining high standards of conduct among its officers and ensuring accountability in the discharge of its mandate.

“The GRA remains committed to upholding integrity, accountability, and professionalism in the discharge of its mandate,” it said.

The Authority did not provide further details on the circumstances surrounding the alleged payment or identify the Customs Officer involved.

The investigation is expected to establish the facts surrounding the allegation and determine whether any breach of procedure or misconduct occurred.

The GRA’s assurance comes amid growing public scrutiny of interactions between revenue officials and travellers at Ghana’s entry points, particularly over payments and customs procedures.

The Authority said it would communicate the outcome of its investigation to the public when the process is completed.
