The Ministry of Communications, Digitalisation and Innovation has issued a strong appeal to the public to immediately stop sharing graphic videos and photos related to Wednesday’s tragic military helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region.
The advisory follows reports that distressing images — including footage of the burning wreckage and bodies of victims — are being widely circulated on social media platforms.
In a public notice released on Wednesday, the ministry called for restraint and respect for the deceased and their families, urging citizens to delete any such content in their possession.
“We have become aware of videos and photos circulating on social media of a helicopter crash and the burning bodies of some victims.”
“We ask that out of respect for the individuals involved, circulation of these videos and photos should stop immediately and all copies be deleted. We count on your co-operation,”the statement said.
The government added that its thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of those affected by the tragedy, which claimed the lives of eight persons — including two serving ministers of state and senior military personnel.
Authorities are continuing investigations into the cause of the crash, while the nation prepares to enter a three-day period of mourning beginning Thursday.
The ministry’s caution comes amid growing concerns about the emotional and psychological toll such graphic content may have on the public, particularly the families of the victims.
