I’ll not protect your legacy of maladministration – Mahama fires back at Akufo-Addo

The National Democratic Congress NDC flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has responded to President Akufo-Addo’s request that Ghanaians vote against him in the next election.

In a campaign speech at Drobo, President Akufo-Addo warned electorates against voting for the former president, arguing that it would undermine the country’s progress.

He urged eligible voters to register for the election, stating that he cannot hand over power to someone who isnt satisfied with his performance, urging voters to vote for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who he believes will ably continue his work.

“This is our election year, and the limited registration has started. Anyone who hasn’t registered and is eligible should go and register. This is because your right to vote is your power. Also, when the time is up for voting, our job is simple. The person I defeated and my work since I took over seem not to please him; I cannot hand over power to such a person. He will destroy whatever we have done when he comes,” President Akufo-Addo said.

“I am pleading with you to vote for the person I have worked with for the past seven and a half years. I have faith in him, and I know that he will come and continue the work I have begun as Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia,” he added.

But in a rather upfront response, Mr. Mahama stated that he has no plans to carry on with President Akufo-Addo’s legacy of maladministration.

In an X post on Wednesday, Mr. Mahama stated as follows: “Of course, I will not protect your ‘legacy’ of corruption, misgovernance, arrogance, ineptitude, a bankrupt economy, increased unemployment, and pushing more of our people into the poverty bracket.”.

The former president’s response has since sparked intense discussions on social media.
